Overcoming Challenges with Perseverance and Passion in Badminton
Chiayi City Sports Games
This year’s Chiayi City Sports Games were different from previous years. There was no separate senior high school division; instead, all senior high school and adult competitors were combined into one category. This change was made because the Chiayi City Government wanted to directly select representatives for the National Games from this competition.
Chiayi City team competition
The Hsing Hwa High School badminton team joined forces with a senior who had just started college and coach, forming a team of 10 players together. They won first place in the Chiayi City team competition—a rare and prestigious achievement in recent years!
Among them was Chiang Ping-You, who played in the doubles category. He and his partner played the third match, but unfortunately, they did not win. Chiang Ping-You felt deeply responsible for the loss. However, his teammates recognized his dedication and self-discipline—even when he wasn’t playing, he would find ways to train and improve his fitness on his own.
Badminton Doubles Matches
During both the preliminary and semifinal rounds, Chiang Ping-You and his partner faced the same opponents.
In the preliminaries, they struggled to adjust in the first game, especially since Chiang was battling a cold, leading to a first-game loss. They nearly won the second game but fell just short.
In the semifinals, when they faced the same opponents again, they were fully prepared, shifting the pressure onto the other team. After splitting the first two games (one win, one loss), they fought hard in the decisive third game but narrowly lost 21-18.
Chiang Ping-You expressed, “Of course, I wanted to win. I really hoped we could win.”
However, he acknowledged the gap between sports class students and regular students. Unlike sports class athletes who train regularly, Chiang Ping-You only had one official practice session each week—Tuesdays from 4:30PM to 6:00 PM. The rest of the time, he had to find courts on his own, train in parking lots, and ask his coach for extra guidance outside of school hours. Given these limitations, his performance was already quite impressive.
Perseverance and Passion for Badminton
Chiang Ping-You’s dedication and perseverance reflect his passion for badminton and his determination to overcome challenges. Despite balancing academics and limited training time, he still performed exceptionally well in competitions, earning admiration from those around him.
Notably, he and his partner demonstrated strong adaptability when facing the same opponents for the second time. They handled pressure maturely and, even after losing the final game, maintained a positive mindset—a rare and commendable trait.
His story proves that even without the structured training of a sports program, discipline and determination can still lead to remarkable achievements. This kind of team spirit and personal perseverance is truly inspiring and serves as a model for others to learn from.

Perseverance and Growth in Badminton
Interview with Huang Peichen: Perseverance and Growth in Badminton
I am honored to interview Huang Peichen, a senior from Xinghua Middle School, in this competition. Huang has been dedicated to badminton since he started playing in the second grade of elementary school. The journey has not been easy, and he has encountered many challenges along the way. However, the support and encouragement from his teammates have allowed him to persevere.
Huang has some words of wisdom for his juniors: "The road ahead is still long. Don't rush and take your time. Make a little progress every day, and you will see the results over time."
This year, Gang ping Elementary School won sixth place in the Chiayi City volleyball contest. The coach also said that after the competition, they will practice even more. Next time, they hope to achieve a better result.
They usually practice during early self-study time and in the afternoon. The coach also shared that he was a track and field athlete when he was an elementary school student. However, he thought team sports were more fun, so he decided to learn volleyball. He later graduated with a volleyball major in college and became a volleyball coach.
The volleyball team captain said that she joined the team in third grade and has been practicing until sixth grade. She joined because she wanted to try something new, and later, she became the captain. She also shared that she once wanted to give up, but she enjoyed playing volleyball with her teammates, so she kept working hard. She said that she and her teammates will continue to improve and do their best.
